Program Description
The Riverbank Youth Ice Hockey Program for Pee Wees provides
the opportunity for players born in the years (1999 and 2000) who
are intermediate or better skaters to learn advance beyond hockey
basics to the finer points of the game. The sessions focus on skill
enhancement in skating, stick handling, passing and team play. Coaches
will use specific drills and full ice and cross-ice scrimmage sessions
to develop conditioning, power skating techniques, turning, puck
handling, passing, shooting and positioning. Pee Wees also participate
in games against teams at the same or higher level from other hockey
programs. Pee Wees who qualify, can age up or move up one level
to the Bantam program to better their progress.
All players must register with USA Hockey and pay a $33 registration
fee. The fee provides ice insurance, permission to play games, and
a subscription to the USA Hockey Magazine. Click

Program Duration
The Pee Wee program begins November 4, 2011 and closes March 17,
2012. The program lasts approximately 17 weeks.
Practice Sessions
Practice sessions are held Monday, Friday and Saturday (except for
holidays, special ice events, weather, etc.). Each practice session
is for 1 hour and 30 minutes and are held at Riverbank.

Monday - 11/7 to 3/12 - 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM
Friday - 11/4 to 3/16 - 4:15 PM to 5:45 PM
Saturday - 11/5 to 3/17 - 8:45 AM to 10:15 AM
Games
Games will be held on Saturday or Sunday mornings as scheduling
permits. Each game will substitute for one practice session. Games
are 45 minutes long and are divided into three 15 minute periods.
Full length of the ice is used. Body checking is not allowed. USA
Hockey rules and referees are employed.
Program Requirements
1. It is recommended that all players wishing to participate in
the Pee Wee program be able to skate at the intermediate level and
above.
Individual pee wee hockey skills to learn and master include:
a. Skating - be able to forward skate from the ready position
going left or right, maintain a forward stride, execute a controlled
one foot power stop; execute control turns on the left and right
edges of the skates, perform forward and backward crossovers, change
direction of skating from forward to backward (mohawk) and skate
laterally. Be able to backward skate, perform backward crossunder
starts, and stop with a backward two-skate stop and backward power
stop (one skate).
b. Puck Control - be able to dribble the puck side to side,
forward to backward, and diagonally, to shift puck to the forehand
or backhand and to accelerate and maneuver forward and backward
with the puck. Be able to get by a defender by maneuvering the puck
under the defender's stick or skates (attacking the triangle). Execute
change of pace, puck protection and give and take. Be able to slip
the puck through the legs of defender (slip through), slip the puck
behind the stick of defender but in front of skates (slip across)
and move puck up the ice using the boards.
c. Passing and Receiving - be able to make and receive a
forehand pass, backhand pass, board pass, saucer (flip) pass, snap
pass, one touch pass, breakout pass, alley oop pass, wrap around
pass and to maintain eye contact during passing and receiving. Be
able to receive a pass with a skate, bat or stop the puck with a
hand or surround the puck in order to pass.
d. Shooting - be able to execute the following shots: wrist,
backhand, flip, snap, and slap shots. Be able to make a fake shot
and to screen and deflect and tip shots into the goal and make shots
from rebounds.
e. Checking - be able to perform a poke check, hook check,
stick lift check, and press stick check. Also know how to angle,
steer, and deflect players, control the gap between the offensive
player and self, and stick close to opponents to prevent opposing
team plays (covering). Be able to give and receive a shoulder check.
f. Goalkeeping - be able to show basic stance and perform
the parallel shuffle, lateral t-glide, forward and backward moves
and stick, glove, leg, skate, and body saves. Be able to stack the
leg pads for a moving block, make butterfly saves ("V"
Drop) and control rebounds. Learn to play angles and manage various
hockey situations.
2. All players participating in the Pee Wee program MUST be fully
equipped at each practice session or game before they step onto
the ice. The following equipment is required to be worn by each
player in the program and must be put on and worn properly: shoulder
pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin guards, hockey socks and garter,
skates, hockey jersey, and properly fitted HECC certified hockey
helmet with face shield, hockey gloves, and hockey stick. Mouthpieces
and neck guards are also strongly recommended.
3. All players must be on time for practice. All players must respect
their coaches, each other, and behave in a sportsmanlike manner
at all times.

50 sessions including games over 17 weeks for $212 equals $4.24
